No shortcut to success

                 No shortcut to success
"I need to prepare for that test as soon as possible", Hannah said bitting her lip.
"Or you could have just said ASAP! Instead of wasting your time saying as soon as possible", mark leered at Hannah, his course mate and best friend.
"You and this your shortcut ways of doing things, life is not about shortcuts, sometimes you need to do things the way it's being done in order for things to turn out the right way", she adviced giving him a stern and serious look.
"Han, life is good with shortcuts, it saves time, strength and energy, you just have to be smart, you know what I mean hun? be brilliant and think of something that does not have to come with lot of hard work and stress, shortcut is life baby", he replied dipping his hands into his pocket.
She rolled her eyes at him, "You never listen hun, it's your problem anyway dearie, shortcut mark!!!"
"Yeah that's me", he replied with a grin.
"Ugh, what...ever ", she said blandly.
"Hmmn, you wanna go grab some snacks? lectures have been very long and tiring", he said and rose from his sit.
"Yeah sure, 'm damn starving", she replied packing her books into her bag then slung it over her shoulder.
            ********************************
"Oh boy, it seems like something interesting is happening here", Hannah said as she noticed a scene of students gathering around two male students.
"You wanna go watch?", she added.
"Yeah sure, let's go", mark replied.
"Lemme ask Tina what's going on", Hannah said as they entered the room of the scenario.
"Hey tee, what's going on?", Hannah asked one of her course mate with curiosity.
"Girl, it's a challenge between those two fishes, they wanna see who is strong enough to open a jar cover", Tina replied nicely.
"Oh really, thanks hun", Hannah said.
"Your welcome dear", Tina returned the kind gesture she gave her as Hannah looked around, a tennis ball in a jar which the cover was tightened deeply and two tall guys with broad shoulders exercising their hands, preparing for the lame competition.
She scoffed, "How childish".
Mark smiled, " 'm so eager to see where this is gonna end".
"Just shut up and watch dummy", Hannah cautioned.
"Yes ma", he replied with a grin and focused his gaze on the guys preparing for the so called "challenge"
  "So lame", he thought.
The first guy picked up the jar and tried to open the cover, he tried for almost thirty minutes but it was to no avail and then he gave up, he dropped it.
"This is so hard than I expected", The guy murmured silently, ashamed to accept defeat.
The second guy picked up the jar and started trying, giving it all his best, sweating profusely, he didn't relent, he kept on trying and trying and trying buh he could not open the jar cover and he dropped it.
Mark Scoffed loud, "so no winner hun?" All the students turn their head and focused their gaze on him.
Mark moved forward, Headed for the jar, picked it up and dropped it on the floor shrugging his shoulders and the jar broke then the tennis ball rolled out of the broken jar, and gained freedom.
He then turned to face those guys who partook in the challenge and said, "you both spent ya time, efforts and sweat on something that could have being done in a second with no force exerted or pressure, just simple intelligence, you know life is not as tough as you think it is, its just about been brilliant and smart", he said those last words looking directly into Hannah's eyeballs with the look of "m right baby".
"Wooh, wooh, shortcut mark", the students cheered and applauded addressing him by his nick.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you", he bowed his head in appreciation feeling elated.
"Or those guys could have just try more harder and opened the jar the right way it ought to be done, hard work and efforts is another name for miracles, giving your best into something will always come out with a great reward ", Hannah said calmly and in her best audible voice.
  Silence
"If there is a easy way of doing something, why go through a rough and long journey", a student said aloud breaking the silence.
"If you can do something in a way that saves time and strength, why should we go through a part that is gonna take like eternity?", another student joined in sounding amused.
All eyes focused on Hannah, waiting eagerly for a reply.
Hannah took a deep breath and finally spoke, "i don't believe there is a shortcut to something or shortcut pays, hard work and sweat is very important, what we sweat and work hard for will surely pays and not what we think we can get without any hard work or strength, life is tough hun, it's difficult, everyone wants a shortcut, an easy part, a smooth road but we need to go through hardship in order to taste Sucess, we need to give it all our best in order to be great, life is so tough and difficult but the race is only for those who are strong, for those who never give up, for those who believe in working hard what they want, what they need and what they desire to have or be. You could have saved up the jar and also give freedoom to the tennis ball if you had gone through the right procedure of opening the jar, we all want a quick and easy road buh sometimes we tend to lose some things we could have gain when looking for a shortcut, that's all m gonna say".
"Whatever miss lecturer", a student said and began to dismissed one by one.
"You see miss, shortcut pays", mark said with a grin after they have all left.
"What...ever mark", she sht him a resentful look.

"Hey Jake, how did your test go?"mark asked a course mate.
"It went well buh it was pretty tough", jake replied curtly.
"Mine was very sweet, I used my shortcut code, 'm sure m gonna clear it", mark replied with confidence.
"Hmmn, shortcut mark, your the man guy", Jake cheered.
"Let's go and check our results", Jake added and they both head for the notice board.

On getting there mark saw his result and he failed..
He look disappointed, "my codes were so fucking right, how come I failed?"
"Come on guy, it's okay to make mistakes, We tend to fall to rise again, We make mistakes to learn and to be sure we'll not repeat the same mistake and by the way, shortcut is not everything guy, learn to work harder for what you want, success only comes through hard work", Jake adviced.
"Oh really?, mr lecturer ", mark said in annoyance.
"The fact you passed this time around doesn't mean I won't pass the next time, 'm gonna get to the top guy, with my shortcut ways 'm gonna taste Sucess and I 'll surprise you guys", he added.
"I didn't mean to offend you guy, I was just rendering an advice as a friend", Jake said calmly.
"Whatever guy", mark shot him a resentful look.
       *************************************
The time for the final exams arrived and all the students have read and prepare for the exam, countless sleepless night for serious students, lots of hard work and dedication in reading, assimilating and understanding, lots of fasting and praying. It was the last exam they were gonna do in the university, the reward of the years they spent in school, the outcome of their journey in the university, but mark never read or study, he believed in his short cuts, he planned to answer the questions using BACD all through.
"I don't need to be hard working I just need to be smart", he told himself.

The results came out and they all went to check their names on the notice board, it was their last year in the university, everyone was hoping to graduate with a 2:1 at least which is a second class upper but when mark check his name, he failed.
He sighed, "indeed their is no shortcut to success, a man who think is wise and prepare a table layers by layers hoping to get to the top without hard work and effort is definitely gonna slip, without hard work you can't make it close to success not to talk of getting to the top, Life is no shortcut, It's all about been hardworking, Life is tough buh as there is the sowing season so also is the harvest season, Be hardworking and know hard work and effort pays, an easy could be sweet and less consuming but the reward is only for those who gave in everything and work harder for what they believe in, brilliancy, intelligence, smartness, hard work and dedication all work in the same lane, the one who decides to go for all has aimed for success", he said in deep tears.
